But No Elephants!, a group exhibition of alumni from the museum's artist-in-residence program, offers both a celebration of the five year anniversary of the museum, and a love letter to the spirit of activism, collective action, and community, inspired by the surrounding neighborhood of Sugar Hill.

The exhibition imagines the works of its four artists, David Shrobe, Derek Fordjour, Leslie Jimenez and Damien Davis, as different embodiments of the various characters in Smath’s children’s book, But No Elephants!. Each of their artistic practices, though disparate, seek to examine the various ways in which making and repairing, collecting and assembling, presenting and potentially dismantling existing hierarchies, allow us to reimagine the values we hold as members of a collective social consciousness.
