MAKING ART! with Taisan Tanaka and Sumie Kaneko

Inspired by our guiding principle, 'What does it mean to be a global citizen?,' Playdate this month will feature a special afternoon with Japanese artist Taisan Tanaka and musicia Sumie Kaneko. Join us! 

CALLIGRAPHY WORKSHOP
2:00 - 3:00pm, Living Room
Artist Taisan Tanaka will teach our tiny visitors about art of calligraphy, its origins and methods. Be sure to join the fun and create your very own calligraphy to take home!

CALLIGRAPHY MUSICAL PERFORMANCE
3:00 - 3:30pm, Living Room

Artist Taisan Tanaka will delight us with a large-scale calligraphy performance accompanied by the melodic sounds of the Shamisen and Koto instruments by musician Sumie Kaneko. 

SUMIE KANEKO LIVE
3:30 - 4:00pm, Living Room

Japanese Koto & Shamisen player and Jazz singer/songwriter Sumi Kaneko delights us with a musical performance.

ABOUT TAISAN TANAKA
Taisan Tanaka is a contemporary Japanese artist. He specializes in the fushion of drawing calligraphy. His works have been performanced in U.S.Department of Defense in Japan, and Klingspor Museum (Museum of contemporary calligraphy) in Germany among others. For more info, click here

ABOUT SUMIE KANEKO
Japanese Koto & Shamisen player and Jazz singer/songwriter Sumie (Sumi-é) Kaneko creates music that spans a millennium.  A master in the traditional repertoire of these ancient instruments, she has also pioneered their use in jazz and experimental music, through solo and group performances worldwide.
