Harlem songbird, Shawana Kemp (aka Shine of Shine and the Moonbeams) will present a musical performance inspired by the exhibition SHINIQUE SMITH: Secret Garden Laughing Place. Kemp will explore a narrative about new clothes, used goods, and material possessions while reading the book Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts. Art making in response to the story and exhibition's ideas will also occur.
About Story Time: Tales on Sugar Hill
Grounded in a curatorial mission to share stories through theater, music, dance and visual art, as well as oral and literary forms, Story Times: Tales on Sugar Hill presents tales, fables, histories and myths that genuinely reflect the diverse ethnic and cultural milieu of our surroundings. Held every second Saturday of each month, each presentation includes a participatory art activity facilitated by teaching artists, so children not only experience other’s stories, but also reflect on what they see and hear, and create and share their own stories.
